Cannes

Best known perhaps for the Cannes Film Festival, this city on the French Riviera is a busy tourist destination famous for its luxury shops, restaurants, and fine hotels.
The city council had the idea of an international film festival shortly before World War II. The first film festival opened on September 2o, 1946, held in the Casino Municipal.
To get to know Cannes, take a stroll along La Croisette, the waterfront avenue lined with plane and palm trees, then head to La Suquet, the old town, and up to the fortified tower and Church Place for great views of Cannes.
