Day 11 – Disembarking Silver Shadow & Final Thoughts

Stockholm, Sweden — It is astounding to think that I awakened on Silver Shadow this morning in Singapore, transferred to the airport, changed planes in Bangkok, and now I am back in Sweden in time for dinner.
Bali, Java, Singapore all seem so far away, and certainly there are a lot of miles between where I am now and where I was earlier this week and last. Airlines, despite our grumbles, make it possible to transport ourselves between the world’s many sights, attractions and cultures.
“Beam me up Scottie,” is the popular phrase associated with Star Trek. Today, felt a lot like I had experienced some futuristic mode of travel where the participants are transported from one world to another. My effortless journey was thanks to Thai Airways, where, as I reported earlier, I got a bargain seat by purchasing points from US Airways and using those to fly Business Class. I rank Thai extremely high for comfort and service. Thanks for the ride.
My last evening on Silver Shadow ended with an Evening Trishaw Experience, where more than a dozen guests stepped on trishaws to be pedaled, with a guide, from Bugis Street through several districts of Singapore. Our 45-minute ride ended at the legendary Raffles Hotel, where we were treated to the hotel’s signature drink, a Singapore Sling.
This was a fun excursion. Some participants told me the trishaw ride ranked among their top experiences on this sailing from Bali to Singapore, along with visiting Borobudur.
I’ll have a few final thoughts about my voyage on Sunday, and I am happy to answer any of any questions you may have about this sailing or about Silver Shadow. Please leave your questions in the comments box below.
Now, time for dinner — many times zones away, and worlds away, from where I began my morning.
