Early this morning we sailed away from Koblenz, having overnighted in this confluential city where the Rhine absorbs the Moselle and meanders to the North Sea. Most of the morning was shrouded in mist, which seemed somehow appropriate as we would soon be passing the mystical Lorelei. The rocks, and the eponymous maiden who sits… [Read More]
My day started with Kölsch and Kraut. Kölsch is a beer typical of the Cologne region, sparkly yellow and lightly hoppy. The kraut took the form of sauerkraut, delicious and tempting all of us to have more than we felt we should 30 minutes before lunch. I stood with my fellow passengers on the sundeck watching A-ROSA… [Read More]
Mainz was a surprise. I hadn’t expected much from this city on the Rhine, only 30 minutes from Frankfurt’s airport, where we began our journey on Tuesday. But A-ROSA Silva’s complimentary walking tour showed us a charming city with a vibrant Christmas Market, some gorgeous squares, beautiful cathedrals and historic sites, plus the Gutenberg Museum…. Shortly after landing, Monica and I picked up our bags, which arrived quickly thanks to the German penchant for efficiency, and wheeled them into arrivals hall. Although an… [Read More]
Beginning Tuesday, December 3, I’ll be cruising along the Rhine River on all-inclusive A-ROSA. Then, on December 10, I’ll board a Lufthansa jet in Frankfurt to fly to Ushuaia for a 10-day journey to the White Continent, returning on December 24.
This past summer, I enjoyed a wonderful week on the Rhône and Saône rivers cruising on A-ROSA, a relatively new player in the North American river cruise market. On December 3, I am returning to cruise on A-ROSA again, this time on an 8-night Christmas Markets river cruise, roundtrip Frankfurt, Germany, with three overnights in three… [Read More]
