Silver Moon Undergoes Sea Trials

Silversea’s new ship Silver Moon is one step closer to welcoming the cruise line’s guests, having successfully carried out her sea trials between August 8 and August 20. Carrying a reduced crew of approximately 320 due to precautionary health protocols, the ship journeyed between Fincantieri’s shipyards in Ancona and Trieste, Italy, undergoing a week-long dry-dock period in the latter. With a delivery date set for October 30, Silver Moon will become the second ship to join Silversea’s fleet in 2020, following the delivery of Silver Origin on June 3.

Last week, we were joined by Mark Conroy, managing director, Americas, of Silversea Cruises. We asked Mark about the progress being made on Silversea’s new ships, including Silver Moon, which is undergoing sea trials soon, and Silver Origin, which returns to the Galapagos soon. We discussed the future of luxury cruising and how it will evolve. Will luxury cruising become even more all-inclusive than it is now? And we’ll look at the explosive growth in expedition cruising and the reasons behind that. Mark also shared with us some of his favorite itineraries as well as new, first-ever ports of call for Silversea in 2021/22.

UnCruise Guests All Test Negative For COVID-19

UnCruise Adventures confirmed that the majority of last week’s quarantined guests were cleared and released over the weekend. Revised news now shows all tests received back for guests and crew are negative and there was no transmission onboard. However, the season will not be recovered.

Two ‘False Positives’ & Two Cruise Lines Resuming Operations

Last week we reported that four cruise lines had COVID-19 outbreaks on board. What we now know is that at least two of the cruise lines did not have COVID-19 outbreaks on board. Seadream and UnCruise both had passengers that tested positive for COVID-19, but after being retested, the tests for both passengers came back negative.
