Avid Travel With Britton Frost – Active Cruising With Backroads

This week on Avid Travel With Britton Frost, we are joined by Michael Bernhard from Backroads Active Travel. Backroads partners with ocean cruise line Ponant and river cruise line AmaWaterways to offer active programs such as hiking and biking, fully supported by Backroads staff and a fleet of vans, as well as custom bicycles fitted for guests.

Now, there are cruise lines that do active excursions well and offer a couple of active excursions a day in some ports of call. But Backroads is able to provide activities at multiple skill levels and also provide guests with more variety in tours because of its designated staff and its support infrastructure ashore.

While AmaWaterways may provide guests the opportunity to bike and hike on certain excursions, there is only one group that goes on these tours, making it hard for guests who wish for a more or less intense active experience. While this may work for some, as it did for me, those who are avid bikers or hikers may want a little more activity on these excursions. And for those people, Backroads is a great option.
