Many of you responded to my post, The Four Best Places I’ve Ocean Cruised, by citing a few of the places you’ve cruised, or would like to cruise. Antarctica topped the list, with more than a dozen of you expressing interest in cruising the White Continent. Galapagos ranked high too, primarily because of the chance to experience the wildlife that inhabits the islands.
Following are more than a dozen destinations that topped the bucket lists of avid cruisers.
Galapagos – Has been at the top of my bucket list for 20 years. I love to interact with animals, both on land and at sea. They are so docile I’ve heard because people are always around. We are snorkelers as well so hoping to see lots of sea life when I visit there. – Mimi Auchter
Norway – Return to the peace of the Norwegian fjords, and escape the craziness in which we live… – Martha Lawlor
Caribbean – Because it is warm. – Malcolm Fraser
South America – I would like to experience first hand. . . the culture of the people, the vast geographical area including the splendor of the country, the “then and now” history of the country. – Marilyn Lindquist
Canals, Rivers & Caviar – I like the canals of France, and rivers of Souheast Asia. Also SeaDream in the Grenadines, and Seabourn anywhere with caviar and vodka! – David Wishart
Tahiti – because of its beauty and serenity. – Laurie Shuss
Antarctica – Best cruise was Antarctica (British, Argentine and Chilean claims as well as the Falklands and South Georgia) – Steve Owad-Jones
The Seychelles – for their remoteness & pristine beaches. I just finished a Silversea Silver Discoverer cruise there. – Ginger Garbarini
Amazon – I think the wildlife would be amazing. – Susan Werrett (Jo-Anne Herbeck also chose the Amazon for the wildlife).
Cuba – Fantastic! Spent a week cruising around the whole island. – Darlene Howerton
Arctic – I’ve been dreaming of cruising the Arctic since we went to Antarctica on Silversea in 2010, which was my absolute favorite cruise. I went for the penguins but was awestruck by the scenery. I want to see the “other side” of the world and the wildlife. We are going to Arctic Svalbard this summer. FYI, my “other” on my list of best cruises was a specific part of the Mediterranean – the Italian and French Riviera on Windstar. – Lynn Patton
Australia – circumnavigation for the thrill of it. – Edward Thompson
Mediterranean – because it has so much history, art, and beauty. – Joyce Lyons
Russia’s Far East – because your description of the wildlife sounds so wonderful. – Margaret Stuart (thank you, Margaret, it was wonderful)
Alaska – Sixty-odd years ago saw a Canadian Pacific travel film on Alaska and it has been my top bucket list thing to do. Looking at Holland America Line’s 14-day cruise this year. Trouble is where we live return airfares are more than the 14 days at sea. So saving hard. – Barry Hill
The World – A world cruise would provide such a relaxing way for great many experiences and insights into different cultures. – Rudolf Victora
Australia/New Zealand – just because we haven’t been there yet! – Marion Paris
Hawaii. Just would love to relax on the beaches and check out the mountains. – Mary Ann Wilborn
