October 27, 1957. That’s the day I was born. October 27, 2015. That’s the day I spent in one of the most beautiful places ever: Symi, Greece.
Few, if any, of us on Seabourn Sojourn had visited this charming Greek island just 12 miles from Turkey. Francisco, Seabourn Sojourn’s shore concierge manager, was in as much awe as we were as we toured this tiny town that sprawls up hillsides.
The 1988 film Pascali’s Island, starring Ben Kingsley and Helen Mirren, was filmed here. On our visit, every turn around every corner revealed something that looked like it came from a Hollywood set.
Here’s my day in pictures — make that my birthday in pictures — on the island of Symi.Inside the church in Symi, Greece. © 2015 Ralph Grizzle Seabourn Sojourn anchored off Symi, Greece. © 2015 Ralph Grizzle Symi, Greece. © 2015 Ralph Grizzle Waterfront in Symi, Greece. © 2015 Ralph Grizzle
