Running Through London & Sleeping At $400+ Per Night — For Free

Now that I have spent a few days in London, I know that I would never, ever, cruise from here (or Southampton) without building in a few days before or after my cruise. London is one of the world’s most remarkable cities. To fly into Heathrow or Gatwick and transfer directly to your ship and sail away — well, if you do that, shame on you.

I’m spending nearly two weeks in London. How can I afford to do that when my hotel goes for more than $400 per night? Points. If you’re interested in how I accumulate points (and spend them), see Sleeping In London At $400+ Per Night — For Free (the link will take you to The Avid Traveler, a new website that I am developing.)

For now, join me for a run through London. We’ll head out of the hotel across to Hyde Park, through Kensington Gardens to Notting Hill. Once there, we’ll stroll along Portobello Road with thousands of others.

Not a runner? Walking is also a good way to get around. And on busy Portobello Road in Notting Hill, walking is often the only way to get around.

We’ll end the day with a beer at one of my favorite pubs. Keep scrolling down: a frothy pint of ale is being poured just for you.

The iconic double-decker bus. I told the woman selling these that I wish I had bigger pockets so that I could have bought one of these for my kids. © 2013 Ralph Grizzle

Casa Nova Notting Hill
This lovely restaurant was busy today — and a bit chaotic. I joked with the Italian owners, “It has a lot in common with Italy. Good food and a lot of chaos.” © 2013 Ralph Grizzle
