The Owner's Suite after the 2012 renovation.

Silver Cloud Owner’s Suite Review: The Living Room

On Silver Cloud, the Owner’s Suite living room is quite a space to find at sea. It rivals living rooms that you’d find at some of the world’s finest hotels. The space is roomy and functional, yet warm and relaxing. You could spend your entire cruise here (shame on you if you do).

There’s a work desk with plenty of drawer space, outlets to plug in your laptop or other devices, a lamp, a big comfy desk chair that may have you sitting more than you intended to. The outlets are European fitted, but your butler — that’s right, everyone on Silversea has a butler at their service — will make whatever you need work.

If you do bring along a laptop or WiFi-enabled device, you’ll be happy to know that as a resident of the Owner’s Suite, you’ll receive four hours of complimentary internet service per voyage. You’ll also receive two hours of Satellite Telephone calls, worldwide, per voyage, and you can direct dial these from your suite.

A major renovation completed in November 2012 brought new furniture, fabrics and carpets to the living room, as well as a new entertainment center. A complete wall was redesigned to accommodate the large, flat-panel Philips television.

There’s also a Bang & Olufsen audio system (it plays CDs only, but the bedroom features an iHome docking station for playing music from your iPod or iPhone) and a  a Philips DVD player (the Library, with a selection of DVDs, is 10 feet away on the same deck, although you’ll need to obtain the actual DVD from the front desk, one deck directly below — again, your butler will gladly do this for you.)

Two could stay comfortably in the Owner’s Suite, but the sofa also converts to a comfortable bed if you’re traveling with family, although we have a better solution: Take the adjoining Vista Suite, 736.

If you do bring family, the dining room will seat four (a large window frames the setting).

Dining room service on Silversea is second to none. Feel free to order from the main restaurant’s menu or the room service menu. Either way, your breakfast, lunch or dinner will be elegantly served, on a fresh tablecloth and with your butler at your beck and call.

Enjoy breakfast while reading today’s issue of your favorite newspaper, printed each morning via satellite and delivered by guess who? Your butler, of course. The paper is another special amenity for Owner’s Suite guests.

A couple of other dining-related amenities available to Owner’s Suite guests: afternoon canapés, and a complimentary dinner for two at Le Champagne, which normally goes for $30 per person. You’ll also enjoy complimentary laundry, dry cleaning and pressing as an occupant of the Owner’s Suite.

The living room also features an ILLY espresso machine and a refrigerator stocked with any beverages you’d like at no extra charge, except for premium beverages from the Connoisseur’s List.

The Owner’s Suite living room also provides easy access to the 189-square-foot veranda and the bedroom.

With its spacious living area, dining room, expansive veranda, butler service, additional special amenities and more, the living room could hold you captive for the entire voyage. Resist the temptation. There’s a whole lot more to this ship that is a favorite, perhaps now more than ever, among many Silversea cruisers.
