It’s not often that you get a chance to snap a shot like this one, a mega-ship pulling into a port in the South of France, with the morning sun casting its golden rays across the sky and on the water.
We were up early to watch Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas dock at the Port of Toulon/La Seyne-sur-Mer, two cities in The Var, a department (county) named for a river and situated in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
Having traveled in The Var many times now, I would call this part of France, “The Secret Provence.” Why? Well, have you heard of it? I hadn’t until a few years ago.
Within the cruise industry, the region is marketed as Var Provence and is comprised of a network of 10 ports, including such well-known names as Saint-Tropez. The region is seeing an ever-increasing number of cruise calls, including turnarounds, where passengers embark and disembark on their cruises. With its diversity of activities and attractions, and its warm hospitality, Var Provence is a must-see destination. Check out the video, and you’ll get a sense as to why I like it here so much.
