Pre-Cruise Check In: Radisson Blu Strand Hotel In Stockholm

On the last of our five nights in Stockholm, we stayed at the Radisson Blu Strand Hotel. Situated in a convenient and quiet city-center location overlooking the Stockholm waterfront, the hotel first opened in time for the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games.

Radisson Blu Strand Hotel gave us the best views of Stockholm during our visit.

We checked in to room 306 and opened the windows to look out on the waterfront and Strandvägen, a popular street connecting  Nybroviken, where we were located, and Djurgården, the big city park where the Vasa Museum and Skansen are located.

One grumble during our stay: We had to leave the hotel for a cruise at 8 a.m. When we went for breakfast at 7:10, we were told we’d need to come back at 7:30, which would make it challenging for us to pack, clean up and make it out the door. Breakfast was all set up, and we could have easily taken a seat and had a quick bite, but we were refused. That’s sometimes one of the downsides of large chain hotels. I understand the rules, but I found it hard to understand the lack of personal empathy. I like it when hotels empower their employees to make smart decisions in favor of guest hospitality.

Despite the breakfast incident, we did enjoy our time at Radisson Blu Strand Hotel. The rooms are comfortable, with those great views, and the location is a winner. The hotel is close to key city attractions including Gamla Stan (Stockholm’s Old Town), as well as  the designer shops in Ostermalm. On the waterfront at the hotel’s doorstep, sightseeing boats depart regularly for city tours, archipelago tours and dinner cruises.

The Strand Hotel has 152 guest rooms, most of which have waterfront views through grand, oversized windows like ours. Room categories include standard, superior and four types of suites.

I recommend Radisson Blu Strand Hotel for those who appreciate internationally branded hotels along with the convenient location and great views from many of the guest rooms.
