We are making our way toward Barcelona and Friday’s christening of the new Oceania Riviera.
As shakedown cruises go, Riviera’s has been nearly flawless (I did see workmen repairing a leaky pipe, but that seemed to be quickly resolved).
Frank del Rio, chairman and ceo of Prestige Cruise Holdings, the parent of Oceania Cruises, told us over lunch today in Jacques that with Marina there were a few hundred “warranty claims,” things the shipyard had to fix after delivery. With Riviera, there were three.
Obviously, it’s easier the second time around.
Will there be a third Marina/Riviera class of ship? Perhaps, but there will likely be a new vessel for sister company Regent Seven Seas Cruises before then, Frank said during lunch, pointing out that demand for the luxury player warranted additional capacity.
