More than 100 of you responded to my post this past Wednesday, Coming This Week, A Jaunt To See Seabourn Quest, A Makeover For Radiance & Happy Birthday To My Daughter. Thanks for your emails and kind words. My colleagues in the cruise industry and readers of Avid Cruiser represent my extended family, and I value your friendship and support.
I thought you might want to see the car and the happy girl who characterized June 1, 2011 as her “best birthday” ever. I disagree about it being her best birthday. It was a wonderful day, but the best was June 1, 1995, when I became her proud father.
Speaking of family, Seabourn added a new baby to its fleet, which is becoming like the Brady Bunch, with three girls, Legend, Pride and Spirit, and three boys, Odyssey, Sojourn and the new Quest.
They say that three’s a charm, and indeed the final ship in Seabourn’s trio of new ships is sleek and sublime, representing the highest standard — along with competitors Silversea, Regent, Hapag-Lloyd and SeaDream — in ultra-luxury cruising.
While I’m on Quest in Europe, way over in Victoria, British Columbia, Avid Cruiser’s Aaron Saunders has been busy snapping photos of Radiance of the Seas, getting an extreme makeover in a drydock that will span 21 days.
For a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the revitalization, see Aaron’s fine coverage in the stories below.

Wishing you a healthy and productive week. I’m heading home tomorrow, then to New York for the Cruise Canada New England Symposium June 14-16, where I’ll talk with six cruise line CEOs about what’s ahead for avid cruisers.
