Due to the popularity of European river cruising in North America, Australian company Scenic Tours has decided to launch a fifth river cruise vessel in Europe.
In 2007, Scenic announced that it was going to invest $100 million to build a river cruise fleet of four vessels by 2009. The results were the Scenic Emerald, Scenic Ruby, Scenic Diamond and Scenic Sapphire. The ships are all suited for 169 passengers, and are 405 feet long.
The new Scenic Pearl, slated to launch in spring 2011, is being built at the Den Breejen shipyard near Rotterdam in Holland, with the same layout and dimensions as its sister ships.
With the launch of the new vessel, Scenic plans on adding more diverse routes in Europe, as well as shorter itineraries.
Scenic ships feature private balconies on 82% of all accommodations and two fine dining restaurants onboard. Wine and beer served at lunch and dinner, all onboard gratuities as well as all sightseeing ashore are included in the fare.
Scenic Tours is a 20-year-old private company based in Australia with offices in New Zealand, Switzerland, the U.K. and Canada, which serves the North America market.
