Cruise Bordeaux
Bordeaux, worldwide renowned wine capital, now listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, lies some 60 miles from the sea at the head of the Gironde Estuary. For the many thousands of cruise passengers who arrive every year, their first sight of the city is the fine 18th century facade alongside which their ship will berth. On top of the Bordeaux Center arrival berth, 2 other sites can welcome cruise ships: Bassens and Le Verdon, according to the ships dimensions.
The new technical facilities in the port of Bordeaux provide optimal conditions for arriving cruise passengers: three berths on the left bank (draught 8.5m, overall length 210m), a specially equipped disembarking site on the piers facing the 18th century facades, with access to all types of transportation.
A large choice of shore excursions are available, including tours of the city and of its major monuments – Girondins Column, Grand Théâtre, Place Saint-Pierre, Porte Cailhau and the Peu-Berland Tower. There are also half day trips to the most famous wine growing areas of Médoc, Saint Emilion/Pomerol, Graves/Sauternes. Each vineyard visit offers a guided tour through prestigious châteaux: Beychevelle, Carbonnieux, Haut Brion, Eyquem, Margaux, Mouton Rothschild, Giscours.
Berthing downtown Bordeaux provides excellent facilities for passenger reception and transport, but its greatest advantage lies in it being only a few minutes walk from all that this great city has to offer. Beautiful architecture, charming squares and parks, fascinating museums, intense cultured activity and bustling, historic districts.
Moreover, Bordeaux is the focal point of fine dining in south west France. Visitors are tempted at every turn by top-flight restaurants and friendly bistros. Fashion boutiques and department stores situated in pedestrian streets are ideal for spending a few hours shopping the French way, with Galaries Lafayette, Hermes, Vuitton, Cartier, Lancel and Yves Saint Laurent.
Bordeaux is ideal for visiting a wide variety of interesting places and is within easy reach of the prehistoric treasures of the Dordogne, Biarritz and the Basque country as well as Arcachon Bay and the Atlantic coast.
