Prinsendam Cruise Review

Prinsendam Overview
HAL’s smallest and oldest ship, the 38,000-ton, 835-passenger Prinsendam is cozy and appealing for anyone interested in a more traditional, old-world cruise experience with plenty of teak wood and antiques. Built in 1988 (as the Royal Viking Sun), the vessel was briefly part of the fleet of luxury brand Seabourn before joining Holland America, and over the years she has been extensively renovated.
Public Rooms & Activities on Prinsendam

Pull up a chair and relax with a drink in the comfortable Explorer's Lounge. Photo courtesy of Holland America Line.
Public rooms include the mellow and sophisticated Explorer’s Lounge, the popular Ocean Bar for dancing to the tunes of a live band and people watching, and the Crow’s Nest bar with gorgeous panoramic views from the top of the ship. You’ll also find a casino, show lounge, space for HAL’s Culinary Arts demo kitchen, and the Explorations Café, a combo Internet center, coffee bar and library, with plenty of comfy seating and an extensive collection of books.
Prinsendam is not a ship geared to children, though if there are a number of kids aboard, supervised Club HAL programs for kids and teens are offered in public rooms.

There's plenty of ways to enjoy your time aboard Prinsendam, including a trip to the Greenhouse Spa & Salon. Photo courtesy of Holland America Line.
There are two pools and a lovely traditional wraparound promenade for strolls and lap walking. There’s a small gym, tennis practice courts and a Greenhouse Spa.
Dining on Prinsendam
The Prinsendam’s one-level dining room offers ocean views, and so does the indoor/outdoor Lido buffet restaurant. The ship also has the intimate Pinnacle Grill alternative restaurant for steaks and seafood.
Staterooms & Suites On Prinsendam

Looking for more space? Look no further than Prinsendam's generous Penthouse Suite. Photo courtesy of Holland America Line.
Nearly half of the cabins have private verandas, all outside cabins have both a tub and a shower (a rarity in today’s cruise industry), plus flat-panel TVs and DVD players, terry-cloth bathrobes, massage shower heads, lighted magnifying makeup mirrors, and super comfy bedding.
