Welcome to The Avid Cruiser Weblog - designed for people who love ocean and river cruising. As you read these words, consider that at this very moment there are hundreds of cruise ships on the high seas cruising to destinations worldwide. This week - and every week - a couple hundred thousand passengers are enjoying experiences never before accessible in such abundance.

Passengers are boarding Zodiacs in Antarctica to zip through iceberg-strewn passages. Others are disembarking ships to explore Caribbean islands and South America. Soon, the sun will arc north of the equator. Europe and Alaska will bustle with ships plying coastal waters, and in those regions too, passengers will enjoy a wealth of life-enriching experiences.

Behind the scenes, cruise lines are seeking out new destinations. Coffee-stained maps are on the desks of itinerary planners as they chart new routes and ports for passengers. Susan Givens, director of product development for Cruise West, tell us, “For weeks, I buried my head in stacks of old National Geographic magazines,” to map out new cruises to the South Pacific and Japan.

At The Avid Cruiser, we are charting new courses of our own: Our weblog was developed specifically for sophisticated “been there, done that” travelers who want to be the first to experience new cruise products and destinations. Every entry on our weblog will talk only about experiences that are accessible to cruise passengers.

Our goal is to help you make informed vacation choices and to give you as much information as possible about the ships you’ll sail on and the places you will visit.

We ask that you participate by registering and by leaving comments. Tell us about the places you’ve visited - or want to visit - and share your own experiences at sea. Together, we’ll explore a world of possibilities for people, like us, who love traveling the world’s oceans and rivers.

Bon Voyage,

Ralph Grizzle
Editor, The Avid Cruiser

Ralph, aboard the Windsurf, there is the “old” owners suite on the Bridge deck, room 501. Do you know anything about this room? I was not able to get one of the new suites but was offered this room.

    Thanks,

    Robert

Suite 501 is 398 square feet and is located on Bridge Deck next to the Bridge. It’s one large room with queen bed, sitting area, flatscreen TV, DVD/CD player, Bose SoundDock speaker. The bathroom has a tub. It’s sold as a regular suite, not a deluxe suite like the Bridge Suites on the same deck. I hope this helps.

I love this format, and the info…..

My wife and I cruise at least twice a year (and yet we still work full time).

This year: New Years ‘07 on Carnival, w a fantail balconey, then a two week Holland America Panama Canal cruise out of Port Everglades to L.A. 30 April, and then another New Years (’08), same room on Carnival, out of Miami.

‘08 - We would like to do a Rhone River / Provence cruise….IF, the Euro
    would ever drop.

Please enroll me as a regular.

    Thanks
