The ‘Mother Ship’

The Swedish firm Tillberg Design has come up with a number of ideas for tomorrow’s cruise ships. One of their visions: a “mother ship” capable of launching a fleet of smaller vessels.

“These designs are ships of the future, with natural, timeless materials and a crisp contemporary design,” says Fredrik Johansson, senior architect at Tillberg. “They are aimed at the next generation of youthful, design-savvy and environmentally conscious passengers who we now see entering the market.”

Tillberg Design has played a hand in the design of many of the ships that currently cruise the seven seas, including Queen Mary 2, Independence of the Seas and Crystal Serenity.

The firm’s forward-looking designs were presented in connection with the celebration of Britain’s Passenger Shipping Association’s 50th anniversary early in the summer.
